No, we won't be doing this... at least not this month BUT... wait until January. This month, we will be gathering to relax and converse before we go on our long winter break.

This Friday, December 17th is our Humboldt staff holiday gathering.

Bring a friend, a spouse or a co-worker.

It will be at regular River Rat time: 3:30-5:30 and those that wish, can stay longer.

The location is Mancini's Char House and Lounge - address is on the calendar (click on the 17th where is says "River Rats Meeting".

Food and beverages are on your own.

Hope to see you there for some holiday cheer!

The 3rd Friday of November is Here!

Vamanos! The rats will gather at one the West Side's finest establishments in Mexican saavories and beverages. The family Frias, owners of the Boca Chica, always are kind hosts to the Humboldt clan.

Scroll down to see the November calendar. Click on the "River Rats" on Nov. 19 and you can see the exact address and get a map. It's not hard to find from Humboldt - the drive will take you two minutes.

3:30-5:30

Hope to see you there for as long or as little as you can make it. You deserve it!

Salud,
Carrie

The 3rd Friday of each month- River Rats gatherings

I finally did it! I found a moment to write this blog and make the calendar for the River Rats Meetings for the school year.

Now, I need my co-workers to find a minute, in your ever so hectic schedules, to take a break and make it to one of the River Rats Meetings (social gatherings) over the next few months.

The first one will be this Friday from 3:30-5:30 (ish) at Josehph's Bar and Grill.

I am attaching the calendar below. Just click on "3:30 River Rats Meeting" and you will see the location with address, date and time. Also, if you click on "map", you will get a Google map with the address and from there you could get directions on how to get there from your location.

I look forward to meeting some of the new staff and catching up with the returning "rats".

Cheers,
Carrie

A New Year- same Rat.

Hello all and welcome to the Humboldt River Rats Social Club blog site. This is the one-stop shopping page for all social events related to the River Rats...bookmark it now.

At the beginning of last year's school year, over half the staff at Humboldt were new to the building. Claudia Reeve and I started the River Rats in order to build camaraderie outside the walls of the school, which in turn helps us work together on the inside of said walls. As teachers, especially at the secondary level, I've noticed that we can tend to isolate ourselves, (if we aren't careful) and soon we are all work, work, work and we don't even know that the guy/gal who stands next to us in the hallway is from Sheboygan (I just like saying that...Sha BOY gun), and that they play the banjo.

I will have the schedule of events posted on a Google calendar inside this blog. You will be able to hover over the date and see where the event will take place, complete with a map.

Heads up, save the date now, the first event is going to be at a staff member's home on September 17 or 18.

This is going to be a fabulous year!

Cheers,
Carrie

Here it is and we made it!

I would just like to take this opportunity to give each and everyone a pat on the back.

Humboldt has been going through a lot of transitions and we came together and we helped each other get through this one.

To those of us who will be here next year for yet another transition...support one another, be a team and continue the River Rats. Turn out for River Rats was not big but...

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed. It is the only thing that ever has." --Margaret Mead

So, today is our last meeting. The location is: Lucky's 13 Pub, 1352 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota 55150. You can click on today's date on the Google calendar from an earlier post and it will give you directions. A little off of the West Side but only about 5-10 minutes away from Humboldt. Nice location by the river. If you have never been there, you should check it out.

Thanks to all those that I met and got to know a little better. The pleasure was all mine.

Cheers,
Carrie

Shamrock Friday

In Ireland, the shamrock is a three-leaf clover that grows in the summer. Shamrocks grow from bulbs and bloom with white flowers usually around St. Patrick's Day.

In St. Paul, Shamrock's is a restaurant/bar on W. 7th Street that River Rats visit Friday, March 12th at 2:30.

Click on the calendar date for details and to see next month's venue.

I hope you can join us!

Community Check In

So, we are into the thick of it.

It is February. Outdoors it is still bone shivering cold. So much so that when your alarm rings, at that un-Godly hour of the morning, you don't want to unwrap the cocoon-like blanket nest that you buried yourself in the night before and allow your body to be shocked awake by the brisk morning air. You peer out your window and see that the white stuff continues to fall from the sky and although you spent a good half an hour shoveling last night, you cannot see the progress of your effort. You are thinking "Spring" must be around the corner but as a Minnesotan you instinctively know that we're looking at another 2 months (Tax Day) until we can legitimately store our winter gear away.

Anticipating Spring and Tax Day, your thoughts start to wander. Maybe you might get an early refund? Maybe you can jet off to that tropical location for a week at the end of March so you can forget about the white stuff, RTTT, MDE, PLCs, PBIS and ISS. Ahhhh....is it too much to ask?

The River Rats can't promise you that tropical vacation but we can offer you a get-a-way of sorts:

Today, Friday, Feb. 12 at 3:30 at Mancini's Char House on West 7th Street in St. Paul.

Show up and check in. Share your triumphs, failures or your all time favorite desert island song (if you could have only one song with you, what would it be)...no one will judge you. We all need a shoulder to lean on, a pat on the back or possibly someone whose "got your back". The River Rats are there for you.

Hope to see you there.
